2 tests for 50$
Total testosterone is the total amount of testosterone in a given amount of blood. Often measured in ng (nanograms) per dl (deciliter). This is the most common test ordered when assessing the testosterone level. Unfortunately, this test can sometimes be deceiving, as much of the testosterone in a total testosterone test is not available for use by the body. To make matters worse, the amount of testosterone available for use becomes less and less as we age.
“Free testosterone” is the amount of testosterone that is readily available for use by the body. It is not attached to other “carrier” proteins in the blood such as albumin and SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) and thus is able to leave the blood vessels and access the tissues of the body. Free testosterone is where the rubber meets the road.
Both of these tests are included in the 50$ Testosterone evaluation.
